The details then vary by region — see our Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali and South Indian pages — but the structure on this page works for most North and Central Indian families.
The usual order of a Hindu wedding card
- Invocation: "॥ श्री गणेशाय नमः ॥" or the Vakratunda shloka
- Hosts: grandparents and parents, as "shubhakankshi" or the inviting family
- The couple: "chi." before the groom, "sau. kan." or "aayushmati" before the bride
- Muhurat for the pheras (lagna) with date and time
- Functions: tilak or sagai, haldi, mehendi, sangeet, baraat, pheras, vidaai, reception
- Venue with map, and the closing — "darshanabhilashi" or "swagatotsuk" with family names
Respect without a booklet
Printed cards grew longer as functions multiplied. A digital invite lets you keep the formal opening while putting each function on its own page — and guests can tap through on a phone. The royal scroll template is popular for exactly this: the shloka appears first, then the scroll unrolls through each event.
